Panthers football picked to finish in top half of NBC

Coming off a surprising season last year, the Maumee football team is already starting to garner some respect in the Northern Buckeye Conference.

In a preseason coaches poll released by The Toledo Blade on Sunday, the Panthers were picked to finish fourth in the NBC.

Oak Harbor was selected as the favorite to defend its conference title, followed by Eastwood and Genoa.

Maumee finished last season 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference, with wins over Lake, Rossford and Fostoria.

The Panthers were picked ahead of those three schools and Otsego in this year’s preseason poll.

Maumee opens its 2024 schedule at 7 p.m. Friday at Springfield.
