State ranked: Maumee appears in first Division III state poll

The first Associated Press state football rankings were released on Tuesday evening, and Maumee checked in at No. 13 in Division III.
The Panthers totaled 17 points in the rankings voted on by a statewide panel of sports media members. They were nine points behind 10th place Dresden Tri-Valley.
Chardon leads the Division III rankings with 98 overall points and one first-place vote. Columbus Bishop Watterson is second with 90 points and four first-place nods, and Tipp City Tippecanoe is third with 65 points.
Local powerhouse and defending Division III state champ Central Catholic is fourth with 58 points.
Maumee’s next opponent, Oak Harbor is fifth in the Division V poll, with 37 points.
No other Northern Buckeye Conference team appeared in the state poll.
The Panthers (3-0) host the Rockets (3-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday at Kazmaier Stadium.
In other rankings, Maumee appeared at No. 2 in the Division III, Region 10 unofficial computer points rankings on joeeitel.com. After Week 10, the top four teams in each region get home playoff games in the first two rounds, while teams in spots 5-8 get a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
Oak Harbor is also second, in Division V, Region 18. Maumee’s Week 5 opponent, Eastwood is fifth in that region.
