Maumee bowling finishes third at tough AHBA tournament

Tommy Parker and Josh Pero were named to the all-tournament team, helping lead the Maumee boys bowling team to a third-place finish at the AHBA High School Invitational at the Toledo Sports Center.
The Panthers totaled a 3968, behind only Napoleon and Bowling Green. Maumee beat out Clay, Rossford, Anthony Wayne, Perrsburg and Eastwood.
Parker led the way with a 655 series, and Pero had a 649 series, including a career-best 258 in his first game of match play. Parker finished third among individuals, and Pero was fifth.
Braden Bond finished 14th with a 594 series.
Maumee was sitting at 2067 after the first two games of match play, but a 926 in the third game dropped them to fourth place. The Panthers rebounded with a 975 in Bakers games to move up to third. They averaged a 198 across match play and Bakers.
One day earlier, Maumee stayed unbeaten in duals with a 2514-2311 win over Bowling Green.
Parker had a 470 series to lead Maumee. Bond added a 459 series, Antonio Valadez had a 384 series, and Jayden Collins rolled a 358 series.
The win moved the Panthers to 5-0 overall.
The junior varsity team also stayed undefeated at 4-0 with a 1782-1470 win over the Bobcats. Kole Nicholson led the way with a 348 series.
Girls bowling
The Maumee girls bowling team exceeded expectations, finishing fifth out of nine teams at the AHBA Invitational with a 2461 score.
The Panthers trailed only Napoleon, Bowling Green, Wauseon and Eastwood. They were ahead of Perrysburg, Rossford, Anthony Wayne and Clay.
Faith Parker finished seventh among individuals with a 551 series. Shelby Benson placed 13th with a 457.
Parker rolled a 300 series one day earlier in a 1729-1495 loss to Bowling Green. Madeynn Munier had a 203 series.
